what is ECHO?

a little scaffolding goes a long way
The ECHO framework is a roadmap I created for the therapy and resolution journey. It provides predictability to help make the nebulous process of making change less intimidating and creates a sense of agency in clients that leads to self-sufficiency. It is the same scaffolding I'll help you learn to use independently, since - our job is to work me out of a job.

explore
I lead with a psychodynamic approach to explore the things you are bringing to therapy. Whether it is as an individual, in a romantic relationship, or as a family unit - we will explore what isn't feeling good and why, in order to gain invaluable insight into your inner world. What isn't working? Where does that come from? Why is it important to you? Finding the answers to questions like these helps us to understand more about the invisible strings that are at play and helps you to have a greater sense of agency over the pattern.

hone
After identifying what behaviors or responses are going to replace the unwanted patterns, comes the practice. Get out there in the real world and try it on. When the triggers show up, when the feelings start to rise, or when you are in the situation - your work is to try on the new skills you've learned in our space. Trust yourself to try something different and break the unwanted cycle. Hone the skills by practicing them in moments when the issues show up and with the people that activate them. Be intentional to mentally note what the results were and what the experiences were like for you.

challenge
Next, we'll challenge the patterns you've uncovered that lead to feeling unwell and build new patterns. Why doesn't it work for you? What do you imagine would feel better? What can you learn about yourself in knowing this? In discovering these nuances, we can then introduce alternative ways to go through situations, learn healthier ways to cope or respond, and I'll offer tools to help you decide what you want to do differently. We'll challenge those outdated, maladaptive patterns and replace them with intentional, you-specific alternatives.

observe
How did it go? Through your retelling, we'll learn about what you tried, how it went, and how it's sitting with you now. What worked well? What just totally failed? What did you learn about yourself? We'll celebrate the wins of growth, we'll learn from the challenges of hardship, and we'll refine what skills are needed. In this process, new information about your inner world will inevitably come up and we will go back to the exploring phase and repeat. Intentional observation is key to lasting change. We'll continue to uncover more and understand more, and you'll continue to grow more.

At this time I offer telehealth support to residents of Massachusetts, New York, and California.

why an ECHO?
ECHO not only represents the framework of our therapeutic space, it is literally a reverberation of your own voice back to you. You are the expert on you, you have more answers than you think. Like ripples in a pond, the more you allow yourself to explore and disturb the waters of your inner world, the larger the impact of the waves become and the more you learn about yourself. The echo of your own words, fears, secrets, stories, and hopes help to clarify what you are really feeling and that leads to what you are really needing. And, as the ripples get further away, they are less powerful and have less of a pull on us, allowing sticky thoughts or feelings to loosen their grip. There is transformative power in saying out loud what has lived only in the crevices of your memories or thoughts. Our therapeutic space will allow for your own echo to lead the way towards a less encumbered you.
